WAKO’s SDGs Month

A=Atelier
The ‘Atelier’ where we craft our sweets is located within the same building as the WAKO ANNEX.

Our pâtissiers have been working hard day-in, day-out for more than 35 years to create elegant and delicious made-in-Ginza delicacies, deriving inspiration from the Ginza cityscape and the changing seasons visible from the atelier’s windows.

B=Beautiful Sight
SEIKO HOUSE GINZA, home to WAKO’s flagship store, was completed in 1932.

SEIKO HOUSE GINZA has secured a reputation as a landmark not only for Ginza but also for Tokyo and Japan and serves as a beacon of time, a constant in an ever changing world.

Hand in hand, we stride forward together with Ginza.

WAKO’s SDGs Month

C=Clean Energy
The town of Namie in Fukushima Prefecture has made a commitment to using clean energy to support its reconstruction efforts following the catastrophic earthquake in 2011.

WAKO uses CO2 emission-free renewable energy generated at the Namie Sakai No. 1 Solar Power Plant.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to such initiatives, aiming to further contribute to a sustainable society.

D=Diversity
In today’s evolving fashion landscape, transcending gender boundaries to have fun styling and sharing fashion and accessories is fast becoming the new standard.

Our collection features a range of products, including navy blazers in sleek silhouettes, available in five sizes.

WAKO’s SDGs Month

E=Exhibition
“Situated in the heart of Ginza, we are dedicated to showcasing sublime art and craftsmanship, aiming to preserve the essence of Japanese artistic culture for future generations.”

Embracing this ethos, we curate diverse exhibitions spanning various disciplines, including works by living national treasures and up-and-coming young artists poised to make a significant impact.

F=Find Out About Nippon
Savor the essence of the seasons. Relish the grace of prolonged maturation.

Enjoy the depths of flavors matured to perfection.

Japan’s culinary traditions revere the passage of time.

At the Gourmet Salon located within the WAKO ANNEX we introduce nuances that are often overlooked so that you can rediscover Japan’s charm.

Here you can enjoy unexpected food and drink pairings that create symphonies of flavors, along with tales of provenance from all over Japan.

G=Ginza
The chimes of the clock tower, a melodious feature of Ginza’s soundscape, made their debut on Time Memorial Day on June 10, 1954.

In 1983, in response to requests from customers who wish to usher in the New Year to the sound of the chimes, we began ringing the bells to celebrate the start of each year, a tradition that continues to this day.

WAKO’s SDGs Month

H=Handcrafts
Traditional handcrafts have a universal appeal that transcends generations, becoming ever more beautiful with the passage of time.

We are working to pass on the sensitivity to appreciate changes that occur over time to the next generation.

WAKO’s SDGs Month

I=Imagine
Using imagination liberally.

We dream of a better future for Ginza, Tokyo, and the whole of Japan.

In 2011, as a way of expressing our hopes for the rebuilding of the area devasted by the Great East Japan Earthquake, we created an empty window display.

This gesture demonstrated our commitment to forging new forms of expression that embrace a myriad of sentiments.

WAKO’s SDGs Month

J=Japanese Culture
Through our products and exhibitions we are striving to preserve and showcase the rich tapestry of traditional Japanese culture.

The preservation of this legacy is also evident in our hospitality, which includes writing names on wrapping paper in calligraphy.

We are committed to ensuring that the time-honored traditions of Japan that we have inherited shine even brighter in this age of globalization.

K=Knowledge
Our staff take on the role of a concierge.

We constantly update and build on the expertise we have developed since our founding to ensure that customers have a pleasurable experience during their visit to WAKO.

O=Organic Products
NEW CLOSET is our extensive collection of jackets, shirts, trousers, and dresses.

The collection is made from fabrics sourced from REDA, a prestigious Italian textile house famous for having some of the most stringent production standards in the world.

REDA’s meticulous attention to detail is palpable, extending right down to the richness of the soil on the farms where the sheep whose wool they use graze.

P=Paper Bag
We are advancing initiatives in every aspect of our operations that are mindful of the global environment.

Perhaps you have heard of FSC Certified Paper?

The FSC label denotes paper made from timber sourced from responsibly managed forests.

We have switched to using shopping bags made from FSC Certified Paper.

Q=Quality
Sincere, polite, warm.

We engage with each of our customers, cherishing each and every moment shared while upholding our traditions and looking to the future.

WAKO’s SDGs Month

R=Repair
In 1877, our founder, Kintaro HATTORI, embarked on his first venture, repairing watches.

We have preserved this commitment to ‘repairing watches to provide long-lasting enjoyment’ and have watch repair specialists on standby in our store ready to repair your watch.

We also give advice on all aspects of caring for your watch and have a customer service counter manned by expert staff to help ensure the longevity of our timepieces.

S=Show Window
In 1952 we started creating window displays facing out onto the Ginza 4-chome intersection.

For more than 70 years we have embraced a philosophy of ‘extending our hospitality to every visitor of Ginza’, crafting displays that weave narratives around themes such as the seasons and social concerns.

W=WAKO Watch
WAKO’s history dates back to 1881, with the establishment of our predecessor, the Hattori Tokeiten.

In 1971 we launched our signature line, the WAKO Watch, which draws on the beauty that can be found in the heart of Ginza and our experience selling luxury watch brands.

While we honor our traditions, we are also setting our sights on the future.

Our timepieces are crafted with heartfelt dedication, reflecting our belief in the value of offering a select range of exquisite items.

Through our WAKO Watch brand, we continuously aspire to fulfill our customers’ expectations based on this guiding philosophy.

X=eXperience
At WAKO we are dedicated to honing our traditions, astutely identifying elements we must preserve and elements we must adapt for future generations.

We invite you to anticipate and embrace the distinct experiences that only WAKO can offer.

Y=Youth Empowerment
For nearly two decades, we have run a window display design program that involves us collaborating with students.

By providing a space for shared creativity, we have forged opportunities for meaningful connections and avenues for self-realization.

Z=Zero Waste
We are committed to reducing waste in every aspect of our operations.

Our sustainability-themed window displays are thoughtfully curated using recyclable, upcycled, and FSC and PEFC certified materials.

Once a display is taken down, it is creatively repurposed to ensure that nothing goes to waste.
